Default The Chronicles of Spellborn

Chronicles of Spellborn - Mortal Online Forums

That's the link to the thread I started on the MO forums awhile back when I was starting in TCoS. Just last week they introduced the third major content patch and Acclaim went into Open Beta stage for the US. I can't even begin to explain what they did with the publishing and IP bans.. total disaster.

The game is good; for a themepark. There are a million quests ranging from boring, hilarious, challenging, tiring and just plain fun. I had a few dev's in my guild, which I have since handed over to my assistant, who really took the bug reports to heart and tried to make an impact. They are a small team, I think similar to SV, and just as dedicated.

Sadly, due to the IP ban and Acclaim's involvement with certain segments of the global publishing, the community hasn't quite taken off yet. The game is SOLID. You will rarely, if even at all, find any floaters or meshing issues throughout the entire world. My Rune Mage is 44th, with max level at 50th, and I only found one zone with issues.. since repaired with the 3rd patch. There were a few fame gaps but additional quests have been added and critical chain ones repaired.

The gear nor weapons have stats. There are slots for adding runes of very minor improvements but there are no runes that completely OP anything. The games PvP is solely based on your ability to aim to land attacks and spells and your ability to dodge attacks.

This game was a great place-holder for me when the main forums started spiraling. I would recommend giving this a shot if you can land an Open Beta spot. It's quite different from the normal MMO and a really good change of pace.

i remember looking at this game and being interested waay back. it does seem like a unique experience, but i'm just not sure i could stomach playing another themepark game, especially after following MO. that said, it does seem like a good themepark game, and i hope it ends up doing well.

i'll probably just wait patiently for MO beta, and if that doesn't come out soon, or if i find out henrik wasn't joking all those times he took away my beta key, maybe i'll give it a try. ;D

Well it just entered open beta - you don't even need to register.

But let me just save you 3 hours of DL time and tell you to avoid this one. Nothing worth playing and not even worth getting into detail about. Just wait for MO.

Hrm what?
I thought it was already released?
Played it back in beta, meh.

Yeah.

It was released in Europe some months ago. It needed a publisher in the US so they hooked up with Acclaim (lol). For some reason the game needed to enter "beta" before being released officially in the US ... which makes no sense since the game is already out in Europe. So now the US has open beta for an already released product.

As I said, if you are looking for a place-holder and something different from the everyday MMO give this a try. Obviously, there's no MO release yet.. not even beta. I assure you that once you start to get into TCoS, and some PvP, it's much better than twiddeling your thumbs.
