League of Legends
Another DOTA-clone, but seems a little bit more developed then HoN and seems to have some other additional stuff that might make me quit HoN.

I tried it. Didn't like it as much as HoN. It has some extra things but for some reason I couldn't get into it.
I'll try it again if I have people to play with. My username is either Nighteyes or Nighteyez.

LoL is Icefrogs attempt at a real game of his own. It sucked. Sad really. He shoulda teamed up with S2 somehow and made some money even though they don't have to pay him anything for the DotA idea since it's actually not intellectual property being develpoed on WC3s system.

I put in for a beta key a little while ago. I tend to do that with almost every game no matter what I've heard about it before. And, yes, I hear it's not as good as HoN, of course that's from the HoN beta forums so I don't expect a fair opinion. I'll give it a shot if I happen to get a beta key. I don't mess around with Facebook, MySpace, or any other social networking sites so I guess my chances are pretty slim at the moment.

League of Legends
I know that everyone is playing HoN (which is an awesome game, all said), but Gamespot is giving away LoL keys, in case anyone is interested.

Yeah. I got randomly accepted a few weeks back. Played it a couple of times, but there's a lot of things I dislike about LoL that led me to preorder HoN and uninstall LoL.
Persistant state items on your account. Not cool with me when the opponent may have an advantage at the start of a game. No matter how minor the advantage, it skews balance.
It just feels earlier in development than HoN. Granted it probably really is, I don't know.
The graphics. Now, I'm fine with bad graphics, cute graphics, all kinds of graphics when gameplay is excellent. However, when we're talking about two games with the same playstyle in mind, I've got to give it up to the one who shows the most effort. So in a world where LoL and HoN play exactly the same, I'd choose HoN. That being said, HoN does feel more refined than LoL, so HoN wins in both courts.
LoL community. Yes, I know the HoN community and LoL community are technically the same DoTA community. However, there is no penalty for leaving in LoL (at least, there wasn't when I tried it awhile back) and at least in HoN I know eventually the rabble will be sorted out. If not in beta due to the ability to play on 25 accounts if you have the spare keys to go around then at least after release.
No deny. Seriously? This is a huge slap in the face to strategically minded players who spend forever trying to perfect this art in either DoTA or HoN. LoL honestly feels like easy mode and without denying will likely never be taken seriously by people looking for a full experience. Without this you give up lane control and are stuck with harassing the enemy as your only means of preventing them from leveling as quickly as you do early game.
I could probably go on, but I'm not trying to tell people not to play it. Go ahead and develop your own opinion. Just giving my "review" of sorts of the game as it was when I tried it a few weeks back.

I'm glad you let me know.
I haven't tried playing it yet, just happened to see it on the Gamespot page. I'll likely try it later, but I've already seen several reviews of the game, and they all report experiences similar to the ones you have stated.

I've played LoL quite awhile.
This is pretty much how it's boiled down for alot of the communities I've been too.
HoN is an executable DOTA
LoL is more like DOTA 2.
And honestly, this "starting advantage" exists. But the playtypes between all of the heroes is so great. That if your complaining about some small percentage increase in damage, or hit points. Then maybe they are just making exuses for themselves.
The leavers will always be an issue, The team that lost it's member recieves a small boost in money and exp to keep things even. Of course since this game isn't even in true open beta and as such things change quite frequently.
it's going to come down to this. If you love pure competative DoTA, then play HoN. If you want an expantion of DoTA, then play LoL. Thats how I see it.

This.
I dunno which one is better in terms of competition (= involves player skill the most), maybe it's HoN.
But in terms of fun and general gameplay smoothness, LoL is superior imho.
Plus, unlike HoN, it already has bots. And since I'm carebearing recently, it's definitely a pro for me.
/merged both LoL threads

very often this small amount of damage or hitpoints can win an entire encounter and then give you a large advantage by killing an opposing player and getting gold, items and more experience.
I personally just didn't like the feel of LoL
